Quiet Hours

To maintain an atmosphere conducive to the pursuit of academic excellence, Harvard Summer School residences should be quiet at all times, indoors and outside. Voices, music, and other sounds should not be audible outside of student rooms and suites. Disciplinary action may be taken in cases of noise violations. Evening can be a time for reading and study; night and early morning are a time for sleeping. Remember that you are living within a community of scholars, some of whom may maintain a schedule of study and sleep different from yours. Noise discipline is important 24 hours each and every day.

Specific weekday quiet hours begin at 11 pm Sunday through Thursday, ending at 6 am Monday through Friday. On weekends, quiet hours in the Secondary School Program residences begin at 1 am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, ending at 7 am Saturday and Sunday. In the residences for college-age and older students, weekend quiet hours begin at 2 am on Saturday and Sunday mornings, ending at 7 am Saturday and Sunday. Quiet hours for Pre-College students begin daily at 11 pm. Voices, music, and other sounds should not be audible outside of student rooms and suites. Gathering outdoors near Summer School residences, whether in the Yard or in proximity to the Houses, is prohibited during quiet hours. Disciplinary action may be taken in cases of noise violations.
