Visitors and Guests

Daytime Visitors

  • A daytime visitor is an individual who is visiting a resident student (the "host") in the host's living quarters during daytime hours.
  • Visitors are not permitted during quiet hours.
  • Visitors are not permitted in the dining halls.
  • The host assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the visitor and is subject to disciplinary sanctions for the visitor’s misconduct. Failure to adhere to the visitor policy may result in the loss of privileges.
  • A resident student may host daytime visitors in residential spaces in accordance with the requirements established by the host's Harvard Summer School Program:
    • General Program (GP): Visitors are welcome. Students who wish to have visitors must obtain prior consent of their roommates and proctor. Visitors may not number more than two per student assigned to the suite. The host(s) assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the visitor.
    • Pre-College Program (Pre-College): Students who wish to have visitors must obtain the prior consent of their roommates and proctor. Visitors are limited to currently enrolled students in the Harvard Summer School Pre-College or Secondary School Program. Visitors in any suite may not number more than two per student assigned to the suite. The host(s) assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the visitor. After 11pm curfew, visitors are limited to students within each Proctor group.
    • Secondary School Program (SSP): Visitors are limited to currently enrolled students in the Harvard Summer School Secondary School Program or Pre-College Program. With the exception of SSP students, no one over 18 is permitted in SSP dorms except to assist students moving in or moving out.

Overnight Guests

  • An overnight guest is an individual who is spending the night in the living quarters of a residential student (the "host").
  • No overnight guest may remain for more than two nights.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted in the dining halls.
  • The host assumes full responsibility for the conduct of the overnight guest and is subject to disciplinary sanctions for the guest's misconduct. Failure to adhere to the overnight guest policy may result in the loss of privileges.
  • A resident student who wishes to have an overnight guest must obtain the prior written consent of their suitemates and residential staff in accordance with the guest registration procedures established by the host's Harvard Summer School Program:
    • General Program: Overnight guests are permitted in GP housing only with the approval of the student’s resident dean and suitemates, and only on Friday or Saturday night. Permission for an overnight stay must be obtained by 4pm the Wednesday before the scheduled visit.
    • Pre-College Program: Overnight guests are not allowed in the Harvard Pre-College Program.
    • Secondary School Program: Overnight guests are permitted in SSP housing only with the approval of the student’s resident dean and suitemates, and only on Friday or Saturday night. An overnight guest must be 17 or younger. (A relative of another gender may be allowed guest privileges in another suite with the permission of all concerned.) Permission for an overnight stay must be obtained by 4pm the Wednesday before the scheduled visit.
