ID Cards

All registered Summer School students are eligible to receive a Harvard University photo identification (ID) card, unless they already hold a valid Harvard ID card. Students who are active candidates at other Harvard schools (including Harvard College, the graduate and professional schools, and the Extension School) or who are University employees, and already possess a valid Harvard ID card, may use their current ID card or class participant card to access Summer School resources and facilities.

ID cards allow students secure access to the following Summer School resources and facilities: dormitories, Houses, dining halls, and University Health Services (resident students only); library, computer, and athletic facilities; Crimson Cash accounts; classroom buildings. Access to these facilities and services expires at the end of the session(s) for which a student is enrolled. ID cards are the property of Harvard University. They must be picked up in person and are intended for University purposes only. Students must give up ID cards upon request to any properly identified official of the University, including proctors. No student may allow any other person to use his or her ID card for any purpose. Students should carry their ID card with them at all times and are responsible for keeping their ID card safe and in good working order.

Lost ID cards should be reported immediately to the Campus Service Center (Smith Campus Center, 8th floor); stolen cards must be reported first to the University Police, then to the Campus Service Center. Once notified, the Campus Service Center will issue a new card.

The Campus Service Center is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm. Students who cannot report their lost or stolen card immediately should deactivate their card on the ID Card Services website, and proceed to the Campus Service Center. A $35 fee is charged for each replacement card. This fee will be waived for stolen cards if the student provides a copy of the police report.

Broken cards should be taken directly to the Campus Service Center. There is no charge for replacement of broken cards. However, there is a $35 replacement cost for cards the Campus Service Center determines are intentionally damaged.

How to care for your ID card

  • Do not puncture, bend, or use it for unintended purposes.

  • Do not allow its magnetic stripes to be scratched.

  • Keep it with you at all times while on campus; use a protective card sleeve, wallet, or lanyard.

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from other heat sources such as a clothes dryer.

  • Do not put it on stereo equipment, computers, or near any magnetic fields.

  • Do not use it as collateral for University or other services.

  • Never allow anyone else to use your ID card.
